When we celebrate Valentine's Day, it's easy to focus on only romantic love and forget about the other love we have in our lives. The love we have for our families is worth celebrating - as is the love that Jesus Christ has for us. And there's no place on earth where you can feel the love of Christ more strongly than the temple. The peace and serenity to be found on the temple grounds and inside allow us to feel a connection with the Lord and remember how much he loves us.
To help us remember our love for our family (and avoid the crowds for Valentine's Day dinner), we have a family dinner tradition that we do at home. We create a menu where all the items for the dinner have silly names, like "Sweet Snuggles" or "Love Bug". Then we split the meal into courses. This year had four courses with four items each. The kids have to pick which items they want - without knowing what they are. So one child might have a first course of spaghetti sauce, toast, a fork and a napkin. While another child might get a drink (but no cup!), garlic butter, a spoon and ice cream. The kids love the strange combinations that they end up with, and it's a lot of fun for everybody.
When I think of love for my family, it always comes back to the gospel and the temple where we can be sealed together as a family forever. And I love this quote-
"When you come to the temple you will love your family with a deeper love than you have ever felt before. The temple is about families."
