Medford is a nice little community that sits just north of the California border in the Rogue Valley. The main focus is on agriculture, timber, healthcare and the outdoors. Medford was born in 1883 when the railroad came to Southern Oregon. With five covered bridges, Medford holds a particular interest for bridge enthusiasts and photographers.
The first church denomination to be established is thought to be Presbyterian in 1857 by a Presbyterian missionary and a Christian minister. It's estimated that the LDS Religion is practiced by only about 5% of the Medford population, but it is still considered one of the largest religious bodies in the area. The temple was bulit in 2000 and is the 79th operating temple. Due to the close proximity to the border, the Medford temple serves stakes in California and Oregon.
Medford is the perfect base for exploring and taking advantage of the vast array of outdoor activities. See one of the world's few marble caves at the Oregon Caves National Park. Go white water rafting, fishing, hiking, camping and even snowmobilling in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest and visit Crater Lake National Park where you can look out over the deepest lake in the United States. Residents used to travel to Crater Lake by railroad for the cost of $8. Due to the variety and amount of succulent fruit grown in Medford, Harry & David's Country Village is also located here. Take a tour and taste free samples of the exquisite pears. If you're a train enthusiast, don't miss Medford Railroad Park and admire the full-size train displays.
After you've worked up an appetite enjoying the outdoors, sit down and enjoy an authentic Italian dinner at Vinny's Italian Kitchen.
