The original style of the Ogden and Provo temples was very unique. As the years passed by and the look became more and more dated, there were some strong opinions about the look of the Ogden temple. Some people thought it was ugly or looked like a UFO ready to take off. Some people loved the uniqueness of it, loved the strong 1970's vibe that the facade gave off.
So when the renovation was announced there was a mixed reaction. But the renovation was about more than just looks. There were significant improvements made in structural integrity, an underground parking lot was created, and the internal systems was updated. Now that the project has completed there is no doubt the new look of the Ogden Temple is beautiful, though not nearly as unique as the original.
